Moreton-on-Swale is a large village in the Hambleton area of North Yorkshire. It lies on the River Swale, some 4 miles West of Northallerton, and first held a race meeting on Friday 20th April 1840. The meeting opened with the Moreton Sweepstake won by Starch, and closed with the Moreton Hurdle won by Mr Lancester’s Physician who beat Scruton Lass into second. Meetings continued annually for 10 years until a final meeting on Saturday 6th April 1850.
